Acoustic & Electric Guitar Classes: Two Locations!
What is the difference between the levels of Acoustic Guitar Classes at Girl Guitar? Great question! Everyone learns at a different pace and it's important to find the spot that's right for you. There is plenty of overlap between these classes, but here are a few specifics to help you out.
Total Beginner: This class will cover how to tune, hold a pick, hold the guitar, and play 3-4 basic chords. It's truly for someone who has never picked up a guitar, or who needs a serious refresher on the basics. If you want to join, but can't make a six week commitment, check out our Workshops & Events page where we have Total Beginner workshops. Need a guitar but don't know where to start? Click here
Beginner II: This class assumes you have some familiarity with G, C, D, A, E, Am, and Em and are comfortable holding a pick. You will dig deeper into strum patterns and songs with more chords than in Total Beginner. Beginner II is a great place to spend as many sessions as you need in order to log hours getting the basics under your belt!
Intermediate: In order to excel in an Intermediate class you'll want to be comfortable changing seamlessly between G, C, D, A, E, Am and Em, and be familiar with (and open to) barre chords. These classes will focus on adding layers on top of basic chord changes in order to enhance your playing and get you mobile, capable, and confident around the neck of the guitar. This class moves fast and optimal success is largely dependent on outside practice time. Intermediate class is ideal for women who are playing a good deal already and want to enhance their current skills.
*Please note: Class fees are non-refundable and non-transferable*
Jun/July/Aug - South Austin
Let's go to guitar college in this advanced class for acoustic or electric! We'll focus hard on woodshedding inversions with a huge emphasis on tone and technique. Prepare to come out of this with improved strength, understanding of the neck, practice skills, and competency that will show up in every area of your guitar playing.
What are inversions? Good question! On guitar this refers to a system of playing chords up the neck. Inversions allow us to create different voicings using the same notes. This knowledge is incredibly helpful for lead guitar players, songwriters, anyone wanting to spice up their strumming work, or those who want a better understanding of neck theory.
Prerequisites:
-A commitment to regular practice
-Basic understanding of the chromatic scale
-Basic understanding of the A, D, E, C, am, and em chords
